Beware – Coyote Activity (Humor)

Coyote (Canis Latrans) is viewed as a trickster in the mythology of many Native American cultures.  Animal trackers too, consider Coyote a bit of a rogue.  Switching from a side trot on one side to the other, seemingly on a whim, coyotes leaves puzzling tracks in their wake.

Coyotes are about as large as medium-size dogs.  They hunt small mammals such as rodents and rabbit.  They also eat snakes, lizards, and insects.  Occasionally, they’ll go after larger game like deer.  But like us, coyotes are omnivores.  I often see berries and plant material in their scat, which I use to differentiate it from bobcat.

Their sharp minds and varied diet allows coyotes to thrive in many different environments – including towns and cities.

I love seeing coyotes in the wild.  And I enjoy hearing them howl even more.  It’s truly a wild sound.

When you watch a coyote, you can sense its intelligence.  He’s like a grifter, always calculating the odds and looking for opportunity.

Funny Trail Sign

Coyotes rarely pose a threat to adult humans.  But small children under 12 can be on the menu.  So it pays to be respectful of coyotes when you see them.

With this in mind, I hope you get a chuckle from this funny trail sign that’s been floating around the Internet.  I’m not sure where it originated.

Enjoy…
